About HH

The Isle of Bute is Scotland's most accessible isle. A comfortable and endearing train ride from Glasgow airport or Glasgow Central Station, a charming 35 minute ferry crossing and you're in Rothesay with a great selection of easily accessible guest houses. So, why Highlander House?

After years of living in Africa, Australia, Canada and France, and renovating & decorating our homes in these corners of the world, we believe we've succeeded in preserving the authenticity and charms of this Grade II listed old manor house dating back to 1851, yet sensitively upgrading it to offer you a boutique guest house experience.

Not the ferry, but the historic and magnificent Waverley paddle steam ship (viewed from Highlander House) can be your choice of arrival and departure in season.

Highlander House’s guest rooms have been completely and newly renovated to offer you a superbly memorable stay:

  • Plush inviting king-size beds with luxurious, 400-thread Egyptian cotton linen in all rooms
  • superior in-room entertainment with big screen internet-linked 4k or ultra-high definition smart TVs
  • bedside and sitting area wall-sockets, linked via high-speed internet cable to super high-speed internet (wifi is, of course, available but if you need more secure superior high speed, it’s on tap)
  • bedside hdmi wall sockets facilitating simple plug-and-play XBox/Playstation, tablet or mobile phone to big screen TV interface (Please note that your phones and tablets must have DP Alt Mode capability)
