Various toiletries plus a small mini fridge with complimentary rose wine and milk for our tea. We also had delicious treats each day baked by Sherry which we enjoyed with our coffee made from our Dolce Gusta machine which was an added touch. The breakfasts each day were delicious lots of choices and cooked to your own personal request. There is a seating area in the front garden with wonderful views of the Kyles and Rothesay Bay. Excellent location short 5 min walk to the town. Gus and Sherry are both excellent hosts can’t do enough for you and we would highly recommend staying at this excellent guest house.

The hosts Gus and Sherry greeted us warmly when we arrived and took... read more us through any specifics for access to the building and contents of the rooms. I am currently walking with a crutch, so I stayed in the ground floor room, which was perfectly sized and well laid out with double bed, table, chairs and an en-suite shower room. There was a coffee machine, snacks and a mini fridge in each room, which contained fresh milk and a very nice bottle of home made rose wine. Wifi was strong and worked throughout the house.

There was an excellent choice of breakfast options each day (Full Scottish, omelettes, scrambled egg, salmon and much more), along with toast, cereals, juices, fruit etc. We just let them know the evening before which hot options we wanted and at what time. We took breakfast in the main dining room, which had a wonderful sea view. Also in that room was a seating area that was available for us to use during the day if we wished. There was garden furniture outside, but as it was October, we didn't use it!

During our stay, each day when we got back there was a nice home made surprise waiting for us, in the form of various bakes. There was also a fruit bowl available to take from if we wanted it.

Gus was really helpful, and we had a nice chat each day over breakfast. He provided all sorts of tourist information and was very knowledgeable about places to visit on the island, and how to get around. Gus even offered me a lift into town during a very sharp shower, which was very kind.

Highlander is an easy walk into the town centre and there is a bus stop nearby that can take you to tourist locations around the island, which Gus provided the timetable/stop information for.

Gus and Sherry were great hosts who provided an exceptional offering, and if back in Bute, I would not hesitate in staying at the Highlander again.
