The design brief, when renovating at Highlander House, was that the new guest rooms match the expectations befitting a boutique guest house but with 2022 high-tech appointments surpassing most top hotels.
In most rooms we were able to unearth original fireplaces behind plastered walls, reconfigure the rooms and sensitively substitute the old inefficient fireplaces with new clean smokeless versions of the original so that in these guest rooms you will enjoy a similar room layout to that of a guest 170 years ago...but with more warmth and ambience!
Wifi is available and free throughout Highlander House.
What you'll struggle to find in top hotels is that all Highlander House guest rooms now have hard-wired, high-speed internet connectivity. Simply patch an RJ45 lead directly from your laptop into the bedside wall socket for super-fast internet for that critical zoom meeting.
HDMI bedside to TV connection is also available to those with HDMI-enabled tablets and phones supporting DP alt mode.
Also in all rooms: superior internet-linked smart TVs, and window seating areas where you can enjoy a snack, catch up with any necessary work or social stuff...or simply enjoy a glass of wine and contemplate the vista outside.
For our kindred-spirit coffee lovers, all rooms are equipped with automatic coffee machines producing the perfect creme and also delivering a delicious hot-chocolate. We invite you to have fun with the coffee selection in your guest room.
For tea lovers our special kettles heat water to temperatures you select ranging from 50 -100 degrees desired for your particular tea preference. We've even equipped your guest room with cute teeny fridges to cater for guests who appreciate fresh milk.
Highlander House bathroom designs are classically inspired and playful creations. All are bespoke and floor-to-ceiling master-tiled.
Guest rooms are carpet-free, having been refurbished with high-end hard flooring to ensure ultimate cleanliness. Occasional easy-clean rugs decorate the rooms and are provided for your comfort but will happily be removed if that is your preference.
Disability access.
Sadly, this Victorian-built house severely lacks disabled access. Access to Highlander House is up an initial set of three steps. We can provide a wheel chair ramp. Most of our guest rooms are up a flight of stairs on the first floor. Smoo is our only ground floor room, which is down two steps from initial entry. The room is not particularly equipped for wheelchairs. Our darling 85-year old mum recently stayed in Smoo and was comfortable, but our matriarch gets by with her walking sticks as aids.
