I am currently walking with a crutch, so I stayed in the ground floor room, which was perfectly sized and well laid out with double bed, table, chairs and an en-suite shower room. There was a coffee machine, snacks and a mini fridge in each room, which contained fresh milk and a very nice bottle of home made rose wine. Wifi was strong and worked throughout the house.

There was an excellent choice of breakfast options each day (Full Scottish, omelettes, scrambled egg, salmon and much more), along with toast, cereals, juices, fruit etc. We just let them know the evening before which hot options we wanted and at what time. We took breakfast in the main dining room, which had a wonderful sea view. Also in that room was a seating area that was available for us to use during the day if we wished. There was garden furniture outside, but as it was October, we didn't use it!

During our stay, each day when we got back there was a nice home made surprise waiting for us, in the form of various bakes. There was also a fruit bowl available to take from if we wanted it.

Gus was really helpful, and we had a nice chat each day over breakfast. He provided all sorts of tourist information and was very knowledgeable about places to visit on the island, and how to get around. Gus even offered me a lift into town during a very sharp shower, which was very kind.

Highlander is an easy walk into the town centre and there is a bus stop nearby that can take you to tourist locations around the island, which Gus provided the timetable/stop information for.

Gus and Sherry were great hosts who provided an exceptional offering, and if back in Bute, I would not hesitate in staying at the Highlander again.

Gus... read more greeted us, took our luggage to our room and went to make us tea. The room was compact, but absolutely spotless, pleasant decoration and view over lovely garden. The room has Alexa hub, coffee machine and kettle egg along with fresh milk and rose wine in fridge. Bathroom was immaculate and had an emergency pack, with toothbrush, toothpaste, razor etc.
The breakfasts were fantastic, good choice including smoked fish from local smokehouse, good buffet selection through to a full Scottish. Sherry would make and leave little treats in room or on hall table for you to help yourself. Fresh fruit was also out on table each morning.
Gus was a great host and company. Having enjoyed the smoked trout so much he let us know shop had a sale on and provided us with opening hours. He also let us know about Waveley steamer trip.
The owners really go all out to make your stay enjoyable and think of everything.
Best accommodation we have stayed at on Bite and will definitely be back.
