  Best place to stay on Bute?  - Fantastic few days at the Highlander. Both the accommodation and the food are outstanding. We were greeted by Gus who made... read more us very welcome and told us what to do and where to go on Bute over a freshly brewed pot of tea. Our room - with beautiful sea view - was very comfortable and very well equipped, also with lovely extras like cooled rose wine and milk and home made flap jacks by Sherry. Yum! The breakfast choices are excellent and we had one of the best ever vegetarian cooked breakfasts. Of course there is also a great variety of musli, corn flakes, nuts, yoghurt, fruit salad..... We really liked that Gus introduces his guests to each other so there were lively talks with guests at the other tables over breakfast. After a day of discovering the beautiful island it is wonderful to relax in the seating area in the front garden with wonderful views of the Kyles and Rothesay Bay.

  A truly exceptional guest house - Just returned from an exceptional stay at Gus and Sherry’s beautiful guesthouse on Bute where we were blessed with glorious weather and superb cycling all over the island. From... read more the minute we arrived to the minute we left, Gus was the most perfect host. On arrival, he took the time to sit down and welcome us over a lovely cup of coffee, giving us great tips on where to go and what to do on Bute. Our room (Skye) was beautiful and spotlessly clean with a great view over the bay. There were lots of very welcome surprises like a quality coffee machine with great coffee pods and lindt chocolates, a mini fridge with fresh milk and rose wine, even homemade muesli bars appeared on day two. The breakfasts were tremendous and nothing was too much trouble for Gus – everything tasted superb and we were convinced he must have been a chef in a previous life! In comparison to other top quality hotels and B&B’s in Scotland, Highlander House offers outstanding quality and value for money. We cannot recommend this establishment highly enough and would like to thank Gus and Sherry for a truly memorable stay. We hope to return again one day soon.
